UPDATE (10:05 A.M. Thursday)- According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the commercial aircraft that went off the end of the runway Wednesday night at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport was an Embraer (EMB-145XR), a regional jet-aircraft operated by CommuteAir.
"Aircraft landed and went off the end of the runway into the EMAS, Roanoke, VA," the FAA incident notification read. EMAS is an acronym for engineered materials arrestor system, which helps to reduce the impact during a hard landing, when the plane leaves the runway. The damage to the aircraft is listed as "unknown."
It appears to have been a full flight. There were 50 passengers, two members of the flight crew, and one member of the cabin crew onboard. No injuries were reported.
