FARRELL, Pa. (WKBN) - Charges have been filed against a suspect in a Farrell shooting that killed a local football coach.

Michael A. Cox, Jr., 34, of New Castle, is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, as well as a firearms charge.

Cox is accused of firing shots at Yank's Place on Idaho Street early Sunday morning. Brandon Smith, 45, of Farrell, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Smith was an alumnus of Farrell Schools and most recently coached a children’s football program.

When officers arrived at the shooting scene at Yank's Place around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, they saw blood on the sidewalk and numerous .40-caliber shell casings in the area. Multiple 9mm shell casings were also observed within several feet of where the victim was discovered, accordi
