AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Ruben visits with a swim team in Amarillo and learns what it means for them to be a part of the city for over five decades.
Head coach Mykala Chavez says the team started in 1969.
Chavez joined the team about a month and a half ago, and co-head coaches with another coach.
Chavez says the staff also includes three assistant coaches.
“I started swimming when I was 10 years old with the Clovis swim team, and then I kind of progressed through there. I went to state four consecutive years in high school, then I started my coaching career with Canyon swim team,” said Chavez.
Chavez says she ended up finding herself here.
“The team is very large and we’re growing rapidly, so it’s a great opportunity to be here,” said Chavez.
