DUMAS, Texas (KFDA) - Ruben heads to Dumas and learns about a local cafe that has reopened their doors after a devastating fire.

Tim Rehkoff, owner of Big Country Cafe, says the history behind the cafe includes a restaurant where the parking lot used to be.

“It was mainly Albert’s Manor for most of the time. It was Phillips Manor, Duffers, Rainey’s, and then me and my wife bought it in 2019,” said Rehkoff.

Rehkoff says they were remodeling the building when a mistake by the electricians that caused a fire.

“We knew there was still a need for a breakfast place north of Amarillo, so we decided to go ahead and get it rebuilt,” said Rehkoff.

He says Panhandle First in Dumas helped them finance it.

The response to the restaurant was “phenomenal.”
