ATLANTA, Georgia — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has paused a controversial policy that would have ended telework as a reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities, following intense backlash from workers, unions and lawmakers, according to the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) .

The decision came after reports that at least one pregnant employee was hospitalized from stress linked to the policy change, AFGE said. The agency said it will delay implementation while awaiting guidance from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and reviewing the rule’s legality, the organization added.
