INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - An Independence man has been charged with multiple felonies after a shooting injured two people Wednesday morning.
According to court documents filed in Jackson County Court, Zachary Gerkey is charged with felony first-degree assault with serious physical injury and felony first-degree domestic assault.
The charges followed a shooting at an Independence home just after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Police said one victim was shot in the stomach and another was shot in the leg after Gerkey entered their home and shot them.
A witness told police one of the victims said, “Zach came in the house and shot us while we were asleep,” a probable cause document said. Another neighbor said they heard a single bang and saw Gerkey exit the house in a hurry and get into a gray SUV.
