FARGO — The North Dakota League of Cities gave its 2025 "Leadership Excellence Award" to Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney.

The award was given earlier this month during the organization's annual conference in Bismarck, according to a release from the League of Cities.

Mahoney first became mayor following the death of former Mayor Dennis Walaker in 2014. He was elected to the position in 2015 and reelected in 2022. Mahoney's time as mayor will end in June 2026 due to term limits.

The release described Mahoney as being "recognized for his accessibility, compassion, and steady leadership," and listed the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion, Red River Valley Water Supply Project and downtown revitalization among his accomplishments as mayor.
