TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Kansas Corporation Commission has reached a settlement with Evergy on a rate increase.
The KCC voted to approve a $128 million settlement for Evergy, allowing the utility to recoup the costs of equipment upgrades and improvements to the power grid. The utility had sought an increase of $196 million in January.
However, after negotiations with KCC staff, the Citizens Utility Ratepayer Board, and Evergy, the utility agreed to a $128 million settlement. The KCC states that the settlement will enable Evergy to fulfill its financial obligations while continuing to meet customer needs.
Commissioner Dwight D. Keen filed a partial dissenting opinion on the settlement. Commissioner Keen objected to the commission approving a 9.7% Return on Equity on transmission delive
