The Claremont School District’s total deficit is $5.011 million, according to interim business administrator Matthew Angell

Amgell completed his internal review of the district on Wednesday and confirmed school officials’ worst fears on Thursday.

The district’s independent auditors and School Board members have known they were facing a massive shortfall since mid-August, but the full extent of their deficit was unknown until now. Board Chair Heather Whitney previously shared a wide-ranging estimate of $1 million-$5 million.

“We are working to develop a plan that will substantially reduce the overall deficit by the end of FY26,” SAU 6’s interim superintendent, Kerry Kennedy, said in a statement Thursday.
