EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The school year is in full swing, as are fall sports.
In our latest edition of 12 Health, Shannon Hegy was joined by Dr. John Ponti and Dr. Nicholas Martin, both sports medicine specialists at Southcoast Health, to talk about the injuries associated with fall athletics and how to prevent them.
The doctors said the majority of injuries they see this time of year are overuse injuries. They stressed that athletes need to make sure they're not trying to push through a small injury because it could get worse over time, and stressed that parents need to keep an eye on their child for signs of an injury as well.
They say track and field athletes are the ones who get injured most often.
