FARGO — Local health departments took part in a nationwide overdose prevention effort Thursday, Sept. 25, by handing out free Narcan for National Save a Life Day.

Fargo Cass Public Health distributed the overdose reversal spray at its main office and through partner locations. Officials say overdose remains the leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. Last year, there were 25 opioid-related deaths in Cass County, but more than 400 overdoses were reversed.

The Narcan spray is a nasal spray that does not require medical training to administer.

“It is extremely easy to use. You just insert this into someone’s nostril and you push in this plunger. That’s all it is, preferably with them lying on their back. So it’s really easy for anyone to use and for anyone to figure out how to use it
