MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (KCRG) - The “Oktemberfest” fall festival is in full swing in Marshalltown - even after the state recommended it be moved to another location because of an outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease.
Since August, 74 people have gotten sick and two people have died .
Oktemberfest is expected to be a boost to places like Smokin’ G’s BBQ, which owners say has seen fewer customers since the outbreak was discovered.
“We have definitely. Some of our reservations have canceled due them being of older clientele,” Smokin’ G’s BBQ owner Kimberly Gratopp said.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has detected more than 70 cases of the disease in Marshalltown so far - including one of Smokin’ G’s employees who has since recovered.
