An armed group of six assailants gagged and zip-tied a family in a south-west Sydney home early on Friday, stealing up to $100,000 in cash and jewellery before fleeing, despite residents attempting to detain the intruders.

CCTV footage shows two vehicles pulling into the driveway of the house on Sunny Place, St Johns Park shortly after midnight on Friday, with the assailants jumping a fence and kicking down a door to enter the residence. One of the assailants was dressed in a fake police uniform, Nine News reported.

There were four people home during the invasion – two men aged 21 and 29, and two women aged 27 and 56 – who were gagged with duct tape after they were pulled from bed, as the assailants stole cash and an expensive watch collection before fleeing in two white vans.
