WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- You never really know when you’ll be called to save a life.

Amazon Flex driver Samira Paparo had no idea her drive home from work would turn into a possible life or death situation. She was in Wallingford around 4 a.m. Wednesday when she stopped at a red light, looked up and saw something usual in the distance.

"I saw what looked like a dark funnel, like almost like a tornado," said Paparo.

She decided to drive around to see what was going on and found a fire had engulfed the garage of John Chiarello and Victoria Carcova. Paparo first called 911, then her instincts kicked in.

"I approached John and Victoria's door, and I was banging on the door. I got the dog barking, which was good," Paparo said.
