Sarah Harrington innovates learning with Solstice Hybrid Academy in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. — Hybrid learning opportunities are growing in demand across the U.S. and in Hampton Roads. A former Norfolk Public Schools teacher is turning the wheels, literally, on what an effective learning environment looks like.

A year ago, Sarah Harrington founded the Solstice Hybrid Academy , a micro-school that is the heart of Highland Park.

"I just felt this pull to do something that satisfied my need to reach out and do something that was special, different, and unique," said Harrington.

An educator for over a decade, Harrington says the "skoolie", inspired by the "Magic School Bus" series, transforms everyday landscapes into living classrooms.

"We make this connection between what kids are learning in the classroom and then what's happening in the real world," said Harringt
