SHREVEPORT, La. — Patients and caregivers at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport’s Feist-Weiller Cancer Center were recognized this week during an honorary dinner celebrating Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
The annual event, organized by leaders of the Adult Sickle Cell Program, brought patients, families, caregivers, hospital staff, and physicians together to share a meal and hear updates on the latest research and treatment options for sickle cell disease.
“It’s just the culmination of things we’ve done all month to make people more aware of sickle cell, which does not get its due, so we try to make a little splash,” said Ron Nierman, leader of the Feist-Weiller Sickle Cell Support Group.
