KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The City of Kalamazoo celebrated 70 years of operations at its Water Reclamation Plant on Thursday.

The anniversary comes as several infrastructure projects take shape for the water utility. One of the recent projects is a new system in the Tertiary disk filter facility. The 10 new filters are part of a $26 million investment that was completed in May. The previous system was 40 years old.

"Think of those like big Brita filters that are on our final affluent just to make sure the water is polished and pure before it goes back to the Kalamazoo River," James Baker, the Director of Public Services for the City of Kalamazoo, told News 8.
