LOVELOCK, Nev. (KOLO) - Steven Allen Kromer, the former chief executive officer of Uprise Fiber LLC, is slated to go to trial in June 2027 after he plead not guilty to 31 felony theft charges on Thursday, Sept. 25, in Second Judicial District Court.

If convicted of all charges, Kromer could face 610 years in prison.

In 2023, Nevada entered into a more than $9 million agreement with Kromer to build fiber-optic infrastructure in Lovelock.

To get this project off the ground the United States Department of Agriculture provided a grant for $27 million, which required a 25% match. That match was obtained by going into a construction contract with Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for $11 million. NDOT advanced Uprise $9.1 million in May 2023.

The contract was later terminated.
