SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff's Office reported that a man led deputies on a high-speed chase on September 13 before crashing and being arrested.

The incident unfolded around 11:40 p.m. when a Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Deputy observed a white Dodge pickup making an erratic turn from North Sullivan Road onto Mission Avenue. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Monte L. Marchand, crossed multiple traffic lanes and nearly hit a curb.

Marchand passed the deputy's marked patrol car at 58 miles per hour in a 35 zone, prompting the deputy to initiate a traffic stop with lights and sirens activated.

Despite the deputy's efforts, Marchand continued driving recklessly, nearly losing control around Indiana Avenue. He reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour while at
