SIMSBURY, Conn. — While vehicle and pedestrian crashes and deaths have been on the decline, bicycle and e-bike crashes are rising across Connecticut .

However, a new state law taking effect on Oct. 1 and aims to reduce those numbers.

“We’ve seen a 350% increase in bike-related accidents,” officials say.

Starting next Wednesday, new regulations will impact e-bike riders across the state. The changes include: E-bikes must have motors less than 750 watts, the maximum speed allowed is 28 mph and if the e-bike has a throttle, its top speed must not exceed 20 mph.
