MAKIKI (Island News) -- More eyes are on city parks. That's one of the ways the city's hoping to combat crime with its new surveillance cameras.
At Sheridan Community Park the city's installing 13 of these cameras to deter crime.
"When there's no cameras, a lot goes unspoken and, you know, we don't really see a lot being reported," said Marissa Henderson, who works in the area.
The city has nearly 200 cameras at about 20 parks across Oahu and it hopes to install many more for public safety.
"It's a really, really great thing especially with what happened to the playground," she said. "I think it could be really beneficial to have more cameras in the area. Just make the people in this neighborhood feel a little bit more safe."
