WAIKIKI, Hawaii (Island News) -- The suspect in a robbery at the First Hawaiian Bank Waikiki branch involving the use of a substance likely to be pepper spray is facing a robbery charge.
Police officers responded to the bank robbery on Monday, Sept. 29, 2025, where the suspect, 66-year-old Charles Christian, allegedly sprayed a substance which harmed multiple employees.
Preliminary field tests indicated that it was oleoresin capsicum, commonly known as pepper spray, and the substance caused employees to experience irritation and they received medical attention soon after.
Christian turned himself in on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Kapolei Federal Building. He was arrested and later charged for second-degree robbery on Thursday, Oct. 2.
