HONOLULU (Island News) -- The shooting that closed down Punchbowl Street for more than two and a half hours Thursday morning was dramatic and heartbreaking.
One state employee working nearby said she heard three loud gun shots.
"It's scary. That's why I said 'Oh I hope that guy wasn't going to come inside our building or something,'" Ceres said.
Interim Chief Rade Vanic said the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) was notified that an armed 50-year-old man outside the hospital was expressing suicidal thoughts.
When officers arrived they said the man reached into his waistband, pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the officers who then opened fire.
