BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A federally funded grant program is helping farmers and ranchers get relief from floods and drought over the past few years.
Earlier this week, Alabama’s Agriculture Commissioner designated 25 Alabama counties as natural disaster areas because of inclement weather.
But it’s not just impacting producers, it ripples all the way to you buying meat at the grocery store.
Over the past decade, the price of beef has nearly doubled. There’s many reasons behind the increase, but it all pretty much boils down to supply and demand.
If ranchers don’t have the resources to take care of their cattle, they won’t have as much beef to sell, and the prices will go up.
