The region intends to work with First Nations communities to interpret and enhance the natural heritage system near the Region of Waterloo International Airport as an Indigenous landscape.
“What we’re proposing is a new, publicly accessible natural area and outdoor Indigenous space at the airport that we’re hoping to co-steward with Indigenous partners,” said Eric Tincombe, a researcher with the Region of Waterloo Museums.
The natural area will feature trails and interpretation of the archeology and ecology of the area on region-owned land just south of the airport, much of which is covered by the Kosuth Wetland Complex.
