Odisha on Friday started experiencing widespread rainfall under the influence of a fresh low-pressure system that has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to intensify into a depression near the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast by evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Heavy showers have already lashed the coastal and southern parts of the state since morning. According to the forecast, rainfall activity will continue for the next three days across most districts.
The IMD has placed Koraput and Malkangiri under orange alert today for very heavy rainfall, while a yellow warning has been issued for the rest of Odisha. An orange warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Nabarangpur district, with yellow alerts for other districts.
