Construction has begun on a new "high-quality" tennis facility in Canberra's north, five years after the ACT government pledged funding for it.
The Gungahlin facility — a 2020 election promise — will feature 10 full-sized courts and two Hot Shot courts, which are smaller to make the game easier for children and new players.
It will also include a hitting wall for practice, a pavilion with change rooms, amenities, lighting for night play, and accessible pathways.
Former Wimbledon finalist and Canberra-born athlete Nick Kyrios said it was good to see more facilities being built in the nation's capital.
"To see more courts here, it's special. I'm just really excited for it,"
