There will be no movement in the mailing system and some post offices will be closed due to a nation-wide strike by Canada Post workers.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers walked off the job yesterday after Ottawa announced an end to door-to-door mail delivery and lifted the moratorium on the closure of some post offices.

No new items will be accepted and items currently in the mailing system will be secured. Government welfare cheques will continue to be delivered during the dispute.

According to government, Canada Post operated at a loss of $1.3 billion last year, requiring an injection of $1 billion in federal funding in January. The corporation lost $407 million in the second quarter of 2025, and is losing $10 million every week.
