Nearly two years ago, I was asked to cover an event I knew nothing about except that it was the first-ever gala fundraiser for two local nonprofits.

Upon entering the ballroom at Palm Valley Country Club, I observed that most of the guests — young adults — were dressed to the nines in evening dresses and tuxedos accented with corsages and boutonnieres. The event had the feel of an upscale wedding party.
