At lest one person died when a vehicle caught on fire on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway Friday in West Covina.

California Highway Patrol officers were called at approximately 3:47 p.m. Friday to the eastbound freeway and the Pacific Avenue off-ramp, where the officers found a red vehicle engulfed in flames, CHP Officer Erik Larson told City News Service.

The CHP said it was unsure if a collision occurred prior to the fire, as there was vehicle debris scattered along the freeway.

The victim- whose name, gender or age were not immediately known- was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the Pacific Avenue off-ramp of the eastbound freeway for several hours while they investigated the cause of the fire.
