A man was stabbed multiple times in what bystanders say was a brutal attack in downtown Los Angeles near Skid Row Friday and the suspect is on the loose.

Los Angeles Police Department officers from LAPD’s Central Division were called to 235 South San Pedro St. and Second Avenue at 1:30 p.m. regarding reports of a stabbing. When they arrived at the scene, witnesses told the officers a man approached the victim from behind and stabbed him repeatedly, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Fox 11 reported.

There was no suspect description, police said.
