ROCK HILL, S.C. — A teen was killed in a shooting in Rock Hill after another teen mishandled a firearm.

The shooting happened at an apartment on Springsteen Road around 1 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Rock Hill Police Department. Police found 14-year-old Braylen Jackson dead from a single gunshot wound.

Investigators said a 15-year-old was manipulating and mishandling a firearm when the shot was fired at Jackson.

The 15-year-old is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Their name has not been released. Police placed the teen in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Jackson was a student in the Rock Hill School District, which has since released the following statement:
