YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - WKBN is one of the businesses stepping up to help a critical drive in the Mahoning Valley.

"Socktober" shares the message that dignity starts with the basics. You can donate new undergarments for men, women or children who need them at the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

New socks, undershirts, bras and underwear are needed. The mission encourages you to donate, or be a school, business or church that collects these needed items.

The mission provided shelter to 1,100 people last year.

"We have a lot of folks who walk into our building with just the clothes on their back. Thats all they have, so we want to be able to help them turn around and grow out of homelessness, and part of those basic needs are underwear, socks, things like that," said John Muckri
