TANEY COUNTY, Mo -- The owner of the Historic Springfield-Harrison Historic Roadside Park has decided to close off the property to the public temporarily after dealing with illegal camping and littering.

Taney County Sheriff Brad Daniels tells Ozarks First it was a decision made by the property owner after his agency assisted with clearing the area of homeless people who had been trying to camp there. The park is located along Highway JJ just south of Hollister in the county.

The park includes a place for people to park their vehicles to access the trail that takes them to the historic "Murder Rocks", a site that has ties to the Civil War era and Baldknobbers. Sheriff Daniels believes some of the illegal camping stems from people who were displaced from another homeless camp in the area.
