NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Long Island neighbors are welcoming the world for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

Over the past week, the event has attracted thousands of fans and generated numerous business opportunities.

Maria has a front row seat in her front yard across from one of the main entrances.

Her driveway is also a parking lot. The going rate in the area is $100 a space, although some are willing to negotiate.

“We don’t go anywhere. I do the shopping, and we stay,” she said.

Fines begin at $500 for parking along residential streets with security and law enforcement on patrol.

It is the talk of the towns, the villages, and the cities on the island. Local restaurants have brought in extra staff.
