GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A jury took 45 minutes to find a veterinarian guilty of stealing a dog that belonged to a Grand Rapids man who’s homeless.

Dr. Amanda Hergenreder was convicted of misdemeanor larceny late Friday afternoon in 61st District Court in downtown Grand Rapids.

Hergenreder owns a veterinary practice near Frankenmuth, but she was in Grand Rapids last November for a conference when the theft occurred.

She testified she spotted a pit bull that appeared to be alone, sick, and neglected.

“Vinnie” was tied to a U-Haul truck near Eastern Avenue and 28th Street next to a Biggby Coffee shop.

Hergenreder said he was skinny, unable to walk and had no food, water or shelter.
