CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Following a Tuesday hearing, a judge has ordered a Lowcountry attorney to provide financial records to his law partner, who is suing him, among other requirements.

On Sept. 17, Kevin Smith filed a lawsuit against his partner at the Hoffman Law Firm, David Hoffman Jr. It alleged Hoffman committed “actual fraud” by spending firm funds on Botox, mortgage payments and weapons.

The Hoffman Law Firm was founded in 2007, but Smith joined the practice in 2012. Around 2014, he became an owner of 49% of the firm, with Hoffman retaining 51%.

In his lawsuit, Smith claimed that despite the firm only having two members, Hoffman has refused to make “equitable distributions” for years.
