MADISON, Wis. -- Two Madison West High School athletes with disabilities raced in their first swim meet back on the team Friday after being cut from the roster at the beginning of the school year.
"When she woke up, she said, 'I'm ready to race.'"
"That was the first thing she said to me this morning... 'I'm ready to race.'"
Aurelia Bergstrom's parents said the freshman couldn't wait to get in the pool.
"She was just thrilled to be doing what she was expected to be doing, you know, all along," said Aurelia's dad Charlie Bergstrom.
Aurelia and senior Asha Shukla were cut from the school's swim and dive team when the exhibition opportunity that made the team accessible to them was scrapped.
