Prince Harry was “taken by surprise” at the level of “formality” after he met with his father King Charles for 53 minutes the first time in 19 months earlier this month, multiple UK outlets have reported.

Duke of Sussex met with King Charles at a private tea in London during a four-day whirlwind visit on September 10, at Clarence House.

The meeting was supposed to signal a reconciliation.

However, multiple outlets have quoted royal insiders as saying the meeting was so formal he felt like an “official visitor” akin to dignitaries and visitors at royal residences, rather than a family member.

Prince Harry gave the king a framed photograph of himself, wife Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie, and Lilibet, whom the King hasn’t seen since the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.
