DES MOINES, Iowa ( KCRG /Gray News) - Federal immigration authorities took the leader of Iowa’s largest public school district into custody, claiming he is a criminal.
Ian Roberts, the superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday.
The Department of Homeland Security said Roberts was arrested following what it called a targeted enforcement operation, as he was in the country illegally without work authorization.
The agency says Roberts tried to evade arrest by taking off in his vehicle from officers who identified themselves to him in a traffic stop.
