MINNEAPOLIS — Spirit Airlines is ending service to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport later this year.

The company said in a statement that as part of its ongoing restructuring, it is focusing on its strongest markets.

On Monday, Spirit Airlines announced it was furloughing 1,800 flight attendants before the end of the year. The Associated Press reports the cash-strapped budget airline filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is planning to suspend operations in about a dozen U.S. cities beginning in October.

Services at MSP will be discontinued effective Dec. 1.
