EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - As Officer Sam Taylor arrived at United Companies Air Center by ambulance, he was joined by a wave of Evansville Police Department vehicles and civilian cars carrying friends and family.

EPD officials say the procession showed only a small portion of the community’s support and love for him.

“We’ve received an outpouring of support and prayers, not only as this event happened, but since then, and even today as we had the procession coming down,” EPD Chief Smith says. “You had citizens stopping and taking pictures and waving, and we just greatly appreciate it. Words can’t describe it.”

The crowd greeted Officer Taylor in either EPD uniforms or t-shirts with slogans showing their support.
