TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. —

A local church that helped thousands after Hurricane Helene is still continuing their mission a year later, and is on the verge of more tropical storms.

Hurricane Helene's flooding and wind separated hundreds in Transylvania County from the outside world.

"Transylvania County, in particular, lost all communications. We lost copper telephone. We lost cell telephone. We lost all internet connections, and then the power went off. From that, it just got worse," said Pastor Randy Barton with Anchor Baptist Church .

But what the community did have was a system of HAM radios and a radio station owned by Anchor Baptist Church , creating a crucial network of communication on the mountain.
