A Chinese tourist has died after becoming stranded with a group of walkers in Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain National Park during severe weather.
The group was forced to spend the night in freezing alpine conditions after being caught in wild weather on Friday.
Police described them as “not prepared” for the demands of bushwalking in Tasmania’s wilderness.
Emergency services said they were first alerted around 3.30pm on Friday after another party of walkers “found the Chinese group in a difficult condition.”
Instead, search and rescue teams from police, SES, Parks and Wildlife Service and Ambulance Tasmania walked through late and cold conditions to reach the group.
A female tourist was confirmed dead on Saturday, while the other members were escorted out of the park in good condition on
