The AFL grand final welcomed US rap legend Snoop Dogg today, and his blockbuster performance has already been dubbed by some fans as the best in the league’s history.

Snoop Dogg, 53, lit up the Melbourne Cricket Ground with a high-energy 14-minute set ahead of the AFL grand final between the Brisbane Lions and Geelong Cats.

The rap icon performed his smash hit The Next Episode and immediately had the crowd of nearly 100,000 on their feet.

Dressed in a white tracksuit decorated with his name, he strolled onto the field holding a sceptre as a marching band and dancers created a dramatic stadium entrance.

He performed some of his biggest hits, including Drop It Like It’s Hot , Signs , and his chart-topper Sweat .
