SRP releases dam water to prevent canal flooding despite storm flood concerns

When it rains, the Salt River Project manages the flow through their reservoirs and dams. Even with heavy rainfall adding to flood risk, SRP says they need to relieve pressure on their system by releasing water downstream into the normally dry Salt River bed, which eventually runs into Tempe Town Lake.
