TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The way our state searches for missing vulnerable people is changing.
This week, the Arizona Department of Public Safety replaced the Silver Alert system with a new program called the SAFE Alert system.
The new “Seek and Find Emergency” or SAFE Alert system expands the criteria under which an alert can be issued, meaning more vulnerable people will qualify for an immediate state-wide alert when they go missing.
DPS said this will improve the state’s ability to locate a person faster.
“I know people associate the Silver Alert with generally missing senior citizens. This is a good thing that the name is changing so that I think it will kind of detach from that association to that name, to know that it’s a broader coverage,” said AZDPS Alerts Coordinator Kelsey C
