BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is nearing the end of an investigation into a situation last month at the county’s detention center.

A county councilman is accused of bringing two phones into the jail and was given a tour of the facility by an inmate.

In this case, investigators say they are about 98% complete and right now it doesn’t look like they can press charges against the county councilman, but they say that could change if new information comes to light.

“There was not sufficient evidence to be able to prove that the council member had any attempt to furnish or attempt to furnish a cell phone,” said Daniel Gourley, Attorney for Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
