A local concert series that has been punching above its weight class with nationally known acts is ready to make a bang again this fall.

Fairhope’s Live at Five concert series has a distinct grassroots feel. Shows take place at Halstead Amphitheater, an open-air venue on the Fairhope campus of Coastal Alabama Community College; a full house is about 2,000 people, the outdoor equivalent of a relatively intimate venue such as the Mobile Saenger Theatre. Except here, they can bring coolers and blankets.

Shows, presented Friday evenings in spring and fall, have a friends-and-family feel from the moment patrons start filtering in from nearby neighborhoods. Local acts are frequently among the openers and sometimes headline.
