DUBLIN, Ireland — On a gray, misty day that seemed perfect for the occasion, some of Ireland’s greatest sports icons and performers were on hand in the residence that once housed the late Steelers chairman Dan Rooney.

Former three-time Olympian and world-record-setting distance runner Eamonn Coghlan, three-time major golf champion Padraig Harrington and Irish dance choreographer Michael Flatley were at the sprawling estate of U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Edward Walsh for a Saturday morning reception to honor the Rooney family.

But they weren’t the only special attraction.

Three former Steelers — Ben Roethlisberger, Maurkice Pouncey and Ike Taylor — were there as part of the NFL’s flag football event that was played in the back of the residence. Fittingly, the concept began when Dan Rooney
